DISTANCE EDUCATION

office-02

There are so many people who are disappointed by the fact that they could not complete their studies for various reasons. The reasons may be financial, health related, due to a lack of suitable educational institutions, etc. They might have stopped their studies all of a sudden due to the burden of studies or lack of interest in a particular subject or subjects, and after some time wanted to resume the studies. The answer to such problems is distance education.

Sylvan Learning Centers, Reaching out beyond the Doors of Their Classrooms

Many students struggle to learn at least one subject in school and it is not uncommon for them to begin to fall behind in other disciplines as their self-esteem falls from not keeping up with the problem subject area. In the past the solution was to find a local tutor for that subject and have him work side-by-side with the struggling student. This method had several potential problems. First, depending on where you lived finding a good tutor could be a problem. Second, the time to work together was dependent upon the tutor’s availability. In many cases tutors tended to be older students who had their own interests such as sports, dating, cars, and just being with their friends. A third issue was the perception of being a failure, since the struggling student had to either go to meet with the tutor at some location or have the tutor come to their home. In either case there was the likelihood that someone would see the tutor and spread the word that “Jimmy” or “Jill” was stupid and needed a tutor.

Technology in the Classroom

color-024

The use of smart boards makes sense both academically and financially. Learning is occurring at an ever increasing pace, and there is a desire to have the most up-to-date information available when teaching students, so there is an ongoing need to meet these needs as economically as possible. A current technology that promises to help with all three of these issues is the so-called smart board, a large, computer-integrated screen that allows the users to both see and interact with the information on the screen.
