Learning history can be a daunting task for almost anyone. Where do I start? What do I focus on? What is most important? These are all questions that come to mind when someone decides to learn history. That leaves the person who is trying to learn history with the need to establish the purposes of the learning. There are a variety of different learning methods because people absorb information differently based on their own experiences, strengths, and weaknesses. Examples of different learning styles include visual, auditory, and tactile. Learners can also be divided into groups—global or analytic.

Learning Techniques

When considering the education of another individual, it is important to keep in mind that there are a number of different learning techniques, or ways in which information is consumed and processed. The main learning techniques are as follows: visual, physical, verbal, aural, logical, social, and solitary. In certain instances, these learning techniques may overlap or share characteristics. In all cases, it is imperative that an individual understand his preferred learning technique in order to ensure the most efficient transfer of information.

Social Learning Theory

Social learning theory is the concept that learning occurs in social settings, such as the family unit, school, or work environment. In essence, it is the idea that people can learn from observing one another’s behaviors, without necessarily repeating those behaviors.
