Kid Online Learning Games

From our own childhoods, we know that kids love games. However, sometimes it can be challenging to find online educational games that children will enjoy and learn from. When searching for games for your little ones, here are some questions to consider:

1. Do you want free games or pay games?

Which type is better? Both have benefits. The most obvious one for free games is that you won’t have to spend a cent to enjoy them. That can be particularly helpful if you’re on a shoestring budget. Also, these games can still be quite fun and educational. Indeed, some of the best things in life are free.

On the other hand, it’s true that you get what you pay for in terms of pay games. Games that you pay for tend to be more complex and developed. If you think about it, many large companies use free games as a means of free advertising. However, with pay games you’re paying more for the game itself.

2. Is the game challenging?

You definitely want to choose games in which the difficulty level is neither too low nor too high for your child. If it’s too low, your kid will get bored easily and quit. If it’s too high, your kid will get frustrated easily and quit. To keep your child engaged, make sure that the difficulty level is slightly higher than their current skill level. This will keep your child challenged, but not overly so. Built-in difficulty levels in games can help to accommodate your child’s particular knowledge level.

3. Is the game fun?

While this question may seem obvious when searching for games, you shouldn’t overlook the potential "fun factor" of a game. While what kids consider "fun" varies among different groups, you’ll quickly know whether a child has judged a game to be fun or not. For the youngest children, look for games with bright colors, big goofy characters, and so on. For older kids, games can be more complex, but should still be thrilling. Many pay games have trial versions, which help you to gauge the fun factor before shelling out money to learn the hard way that it isn’t.

4. Are your children safeguarded while playing?

As with any other time that your child is using the Internet, it’s important that you protect him or her from inappropriate sites. Your child should only be accessing those sites that are related to the educational games, including other players. Fortunately, software is available to help control which sites your child has access to. However, it’s best to keep an eye on them while they’re playing the games, just to be certain. The Internet can be an outstanding educational tool for children, but it’s crucial that you filter out inappropriate websites.

These are some of the questions that can help you to learn which online educational games are best for your kid(s). Consider sites such as Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., PBS Kids, and Yahooligans for some excellent sources of free educational games.
