Middle School Study Skills

office-039

When a child reaches middle school, he can start the process of goal setting. After setting a goal, he should analyze the details of that goal and the things that must be done to attain it. When choosing goals, children should consider their weaknesses and strengths. Setting up goals that cannot be achieved by the student will make him feel ripped off. Also, he will have to plan around many things and make some sacrifices to attain the target.

The student must plan on the amount of time he must spend daily to achieve the task. Daily targets can be set up and worked through and can also be reviewed at constant intervals. This will ensure that the learned subject will stay in the memory for a long time. The three R’s—read, review, and recollect—must be strictly implemented.

The second important thing is concentration. During this age, it is very easy for students to get distracted. Hence, it becomes a very difficult task to concentrate on the subject matter without having any other distractions. The most important information can be highlighted. They can make short notes about what they are studying. Notes can be taken during classroom teaching and also when they study independently. This will make sure that they do not miss any of the points.

Mathematics can be mastered only by regular practice. When we are studying about the historical dates, maps, poetry, formulas, we should use the specific methods associated with each thing. Students should not start studying only during exam time. The learning process should be practiced as a day-to-day process. During exams, it is wise to work on difficult questions later and easy questions at first. It is also important to allocate some time for revision after writing the exams.

It is also necessary to have a good studying environment for effective learning. A good desk with enough divisions and spaces can be used. The study area should be spacious enough to spread out books. Also, the study area should be silent and should not contain any distractions. Things such as snack items, CDs, etc. should not be brought to the study area. A good study area also requires proper lighting. While studying, students must feel relaxed for effective concentration.

During school days, if we do different activities daily, it will give us pleasure and make our learning process more interesting. Hence, we need to take proper steps to make the skills stronger.
